Baccarat Online: Gameplay and Rules

Baccarat is a popular card game, which originates from the 15th century. It came to France from Italy, and its name refers to the word “zero”. In the past, this game was the first pick of people with high social status. Today, nonetheless, you can find it on mass casino floors as well. It also remains popular among high rollers, who seem to be the biggest fans of the baccarat action.

Players worldwide adore this table game thanks to its unique gameplay and good house edge. Therefore, fans can find lots of baccarat variants at land-based as well as online casinos. Those that prefer playing the game online should visit any of our recommended casinos including Guts Casino and 888 Casino.

Baccarat Online Rules

Most commonly, baccarat is played with eight standard decks of cards. Unlike in poker, 10s and face cards have zero value. The rest of the cards, including the Ace, have their face value, i.e. have worth from 1 to 9.

The objective of the game is to have a hand count as close to 9 as possible. However, unlike in blackjack where players can go bust, this option doesn’t exist in baccarat. Thus, the total score is the rightmost number of the total sum of the cards in hand. In other words, if you get a 9 and an 8 your score would be 7 (rightmost digit of 17).

Bets and Odds

When playing baccarat, players get to place one of three possible bet options. These bets are: bet on the player, bet on banker or bet on a tie. Player and banker bets earn you even money, but usually also charge 5% commission. Tie bets have much better payouts, which may differ depending on the game and operator. Nonetheless, they are 8:1 or 9:1. In such a scenario, both the player and the banker get refunds of their bets.

When it comes to house edge, player and banker bets have better odds, while tie bets have better payouts. So, if you place a banker bet the house edge is 1.06%, whereas the player bets house edge is 1.36%. In contrast, the house edge on tie bets is much higher at 14.4%.

Gameplay

When you place your bet, the game starts with two cards being dealt with both the player and the banker. In some instances, the player or the banker or both need to receive one additional card. This depends on the rules of play as sometimes having a score of 5 means you must hit. After everyone has their final hands, the hand counts of both the player and the banker are compared. Whoever has a score closer to 9 wins the game. If both hands have an identical rating, then you have a tie.

Baccarat at Online Casinos

You can always find at least one baccarat version at top online gambling sites. Namely, you should search for the game in the table games section among other top picks like roulette and blackjack. However, before you can play online baccarat for real money, you must register with the operator and fund your account.

Once you complete these two actions, you can freely select the baccarat game of your choice and start playing. Everything works the same, except the fact that you use the mouse to place bets. Other than that, online baccarat tables are quite realistic and come with impressive sound effects.

Baccarat Online Table Limits

Every baccarat game comes with table limits. These limits inform the player of the minimum and the maximum amount of cash they can bet in a single session. Some baccarat tables are targeting medium rollers and have limits between £1 and £100. On the other hand, there are high stake baccarat tables with limits from £1to £1,000 and even more. The table limits usually depend on the baccarat variant as well as the casino where you play at.

Most Popular Online Baccarat Variants

All reputable casino game developers offer at least one baccarat variant to players. However, pioneers like Microgaming and NetEnt have plenty of attractive baccarat games on the menu. Thus, players can enjoy both classic and modern variants of the game. Regarding classic baccarat games, we must mention Baccarat, Mini-Baccarat and Punto Banco. Other modern-day options include Baccarat Gold, Baccarat Pro, American Baccarat and European Baccarat. Each of these comes with rule variations that provide a different playing experience as well as diverse odds.
